Who is Cherise?

Cherise Klopper is Pod 2 operating from Secunda, Mpumalanga. She is a below-the-line graphic, new product development and print designer with mad photoshop skills that would make the Adobe developers proud. She is passionate about life and this shines through in to her creative work. Like most creatives, Cherise knew exactly what her career was from a young age and has never regretted a day!

Cherise grew up in a big family as the youngest of four. She is mother to little Annabelle and wife to Coenie. Family is everything in Cherise’s world and with her’s boasting ten grandchildren, family get-togethers are guaranteed to be noisy and colourful affairs. She is a travel junkie, always on the road exploring new places and seeking adventure. We often find her staring dreamily at an image from her latest brochure – always planning the next trip. That bucket list is extensive, but at this pace, she may need to start a new list soon.

African safaris, road tripping, digging into a plate of ribs ‘n chips, making memories, leaving footprints, family, friends, music, bare feet in summer, cowboy boots in winter, hot water bottles, mojitos and the colour green are some of her favourite things.

A quick summary of her career:

In 2013, Cherise joined a below-the-line creative agency that kick started her career with some of South Africa’s biggest FMCG companies, enjoying POS, packaging and print designs for brands like AirWick, Dettol, Mortein, Finish, Durex and Canderel.

Her next move was a new product development designer in a cosmetic and household manufacturing company. She designed retail and private label product ranges for Table Charm, Beauty Factory and Pick n Pay. She was part of a team that offered a full turn-key service from concept and design through to sourcing and completion. She believes that to be an effective designer, one must know every step that the product takes to become that which we see on the shelf. What comes before is just as important as what comes after the design process. Her personal portfolio brags conceptual designs for Woolworths, Clicks and Cotton On Australia.

She joined Nikolorum in 2018 as a senior designer, showing off her design abilities and creating brands that range from the mining industry to corporate wellness programmes; giving well-known favourites like Clientele a facelift; inspiring South Africa with a few Indlulamithi conversations and fooling the viewer into believing those Slo-Jo beverages were actually photographed with her impressive Photoshop skills.

What’s next for Cherise?

Her passion for design is much more than sitting in front of a computer and making ugly things look beautiful, her philosophy is that design needs to inspire every day.

To inspire, one needs to be inspired, and Cherise looks for this in everything she does. Being a part of the Nikolorum philosophy allows her to be the best designer she can be.
